3 Top Reasons to Travel Solo

Taking off on a vacation on your own can seem unusual to others. People may think you’re really going to meet some secret person or you’re just plain weird. In reality, the only one who needs to understand is you. The only one you need to please is you. And no one pays any of your bills, okay?! So do you and travel solo if you can and if you want. The thought of traveling solo is scarier said than done. Once you go, you’ll wonder why you haven’t been doing this travel thing solo all along. Here are some of the best reasons to travel solo.

1.       Do what you want

There’s no way to make sure you travel your way unless you go by yourself. Let’s face it. Other people can bring you down and make planning a trip stressful. You can never make everyone happy. One person is super picky. Another is indecisive. It can become as frustrating as planning a wedding. But if you go solo, you are free to do what you want. There’s no one to answer to or make happy. You can go on whatever airline, whatever cruise line, whatever dates, and stay at whatever hotel you want. There’s no child or spouse to take care of or cater to. That is true freedom.

2.       You don’t have to wait

When planning a trip, you usually call all your best friends and family to pitch the idea and see who will come. The down side is that you can’t truly plan until everyone has committed. Then, one by one they trickle off. Someone can’t get off work. Someone doesn’t have the money, etc. So now it’s just you. Now, you feel like you can’t go. Don’t be like that! Go anyway. We know that everyone is down for traveling until it’s time to pay. But you’re a boss. You will go, if you have to go, by yourself – and have an amazing time, by the way. If you wait on others to go where you want, you may never go anywhere; or go very few places.

3.       Learn Yourself

It can be scary at first, but once you get over it, you’ll see that solo travel can be very liberating. It will teach you things about yourself you never noticed before. Suddenly, you realize how independent you really are. You can tell the type of things that really interest you. You’re not be dragged to places that really don’t interest you. You push your limits. On my first solo trip, I didn’t book any tours or excursions. I thought I wouldn’t like them since I’m mostly an introvert. On my next two solo vacays, I booked tours before the trip and had an even better time. It’s great to meet others from all around the world. You may even run into another solo traveler. Once, I met three other solo travelers who were all celebrating their birthday like me. Essentially, you’re making new connections in unlikely places, learning another culture, and possibly making new life-long friends.

Being alone is the best! And it guarantees the greatest company.
