Boston

Boston is a city full of history. It’s known for its delicious seafood, prestigious schools, and annual marathon. Not to mention those historic events such as the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. Visiting Boston solo is easy and fun.

In the summertime, the city is full of life. You’ll find several festivals, happy hours, farmers markets, and other outdoor events. My solo visit to Boston was at the end of June 2019 for about four nights. The city is very walkable but also has free public transportation from the airport.

I stayed at HI Boston, a hostel near Chinatown. From there, the Boston Commons park and theater district is in walking distance. The hostel provided a continental breakfast full of bagels, cereal, toast, juices, and coffee. The hostel also offers a free tour of Harvard and a nightly pub crawl.

The food in Boston is amazing. Everywhere I ate was phenomenal. I enjoyed a tasty lobster roll for the first time at Luke’s Lobster in the back Bay area of the city. I had two slices of pizza from Dirty Water Pizza Company that was delicious. The Rock Bottom restaurant offers very good food for reasonable prices. I had some good chicken wings from the Pour House on Boylston Street.

To tour the city, I took part in a Duck Boat tour. These tours are very informative and fun if you can deal with the lame jokes. The tour starts out on land but then goes into the water as the bus turns into a boat. The tour guide gives detailed information about the city’s history and takes you by the swan boats, the Boston Commons, a famous cemetery, Paul Revere’s home, and other must-see locations. The tour is about an hour long and usually costs about $40.

As for transportation, you can get around Boston easily in the traditional ways. Much of the city is walkable but ride sharing and public transportation is readily available.

Boston was surprisingly full of fun, food, and fresh air. As a Floridian, when I thought of Massachusetts, I only thought of cold weather and the Boston marathon. But this city is full of goodness. I wish I had time to visit the Boston Tea Party museum but it only gives me another reason to go back.
